(Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin, operating for a brand new six-year time period in an election that his opponents say is a parody of democracy, stated on Tuesday that previous U.S. elections had been rigged by postal voting.

“In america, earlier elections had been falsified via postal voting … they purchased ballots for $10, crammed them out, and threw them into mailboxes with none supervision from observers, and that is it,” Putin stated, with out offering proof.

Putin’s opponents say the March election in Russia isn’t any actual contest because the president wields unchallenged energy and his major rival, Alexei Navalny, is serving greater than 30 years in jail on costs that Navalny says had been trumped up.

They are saying using digital voting creates scope for authorities to govern the vote in Putin’s favour with out detection.
