Former Home Speaker and Rep. Kevin McCarthy has barely been out of workplace and but he is already lined up his subsequent authorities gig: jury responsibility.
The Bakersfield Republican posted on his social media accounts Tuesday that he was placing an finish to questions on his subsequent step after leaving Congress in December.
“There’s been numerous hypothesis about what I will do subsequent,” he wrote. “I am prepared to finish the rumors. I am on jury responsibility!”
U.S. law exempts elected officers from having to attend jury responsibility. Simply days after retiring from public workplace, McCarthy, nonetheless, was welcomed again to non-public life with a summons from the Kern County courts, and in contrast to the subpoena from the Home Jan. 6 committee, he did not defy it.
McCarthy introduced his abrupt resignation from Congress in early December, simply months after a small group of Republicans aligned with Democrats to oust McCarthy from his position as chief of the Home. After the history-making vote, McCarthy swatted down rumors that he would search the place once more. McCarthy served because the fifty fifth speaker of the Home for 269 days. His 16 years in Congress came to an end Dec. 31.
The previous congressman has been tight-lipped about his subsequent steps as a non-public citizen, although together with his fundraising prowess and expertise as a state and federal lawmaker, many have speculated he’ll stay politically concerned from the personal sector. His first transfer after leaving Capitol Hill, although, was to get a style of a special department of presidency.
