BEIJING/TOKYO (Reuters) – China and Japan accused one another of maritime incursions after a confrontation between their coast guards in waters round disputed islands within the East China Sea.

China’s coast guard mentioned on Sunday {that a} Japanese fishing boat and several other patrol vessels intruded the day past into waters across the tiny islands, referred to as Diaoyu in China and Senkaku in Japan.

The uninhabited islands are managed by Japan but in addition claimed by China.

China’s coast guard mentioned in a press release it had taken obligatory measures in accordance with the regulation to warn away the Japanese vessels.

Japan’s coast guard mentioned on Saturday that two Chinese language maritime patrol boats left Japan’s territorial waters across the islands after receiving warnings. It mentioned its patrol vessels had been defending a Japanese fishing boat that had been approached by the Chinese language ships.

Related incidents occurred in November and October.

Asian maritime disputes involving China have been escalating. China and the Philippines traded accusations on Sunday over a collision between their vessels in part of the South China Sea every nation claims, marking the second confrontation in as many days.
