WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Republican U.S. Home of Representatives Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan subpoenaed Legal professional Basic Merrick Garland over allegations the Justice Division tried to entry private data of some congressional aides, the panel stated on Tuesday.

The controversy revolves round a Justice Division investigation wherein Google was subpoenaed in 2017 to provide a Senate staffer’s private cellphone data and emails associated to a probe of the company’s dealing with of the “Steele file” involving potential contacts between the Russian authorities and Donald Trump‘s 2016 presidential marketing campaign.

Individually, Jordan has issued subpoenas to Biden administration officers over probes that embody the Justice Division’s investigation of tax filings by President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

The Justice Division didn’t instantly reply to a request for touch upon the subpoena.
