CHICAGO – A convicted felon who has been free on digital monitoring awaiting trial on murder and attempted murder charges is now again behind bars after a startling discovery was made inside his Chicago house.
Bertell Johnson had been out on bond since Could 2021.
Earlier this month, the Cook dinner County Sheriff’s Workplace says investigators discovered a number of weapons, ammunition, and suspected narcotics inside his Chicago Lawn house after he posted photographs on social media of himself carrying a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun modified with a “swap” that turns the weapon totally automated.
The objects found through the search, based on the sheriff’s workplace, embrace:

“Mr. Johnson was caught with a number of firearms, ammunition, and a drum journal whereas on EM for homicide,” Sheriff Tom Dart mentioned in a press release. “This was an unacceptable danger to the protection of the group, and completely illustrates why I’ve for years argued that people charged with violent crimes shouldn’t be positioned on digital monitoring.”
Johnson, 30, appeared in courtroom on Jan. 20 and was ordered to be held in custody.
